Behavioral Health Technician

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patients’ behavior and progress, documenting any significant changes
  • Assist in the implementation of treatment plans as developed by healthcare professionals
  • Provide emotional and psychological support to patients
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions and other therapeutic activities
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients
  • Administer medication under the supervision of licensed staff
  • Respond promptly to crisis situations and provide de-escalation techniques
  • Coordinate with other healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive care
  • Educate patients and families about mental health conditions and treatment plans
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records
  • Conduct intake interviews and initial assessments
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input on patient care
  • Assist patients with daily living activities as needed
  • Support patients in developing coping mechanisms and life skills

Behavioral Health Technician Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience working in a mental health or substance abuse setting
  • Certification as a Behavioral Health Technician preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages
  • Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Familiarity with therapeutic techniques and crisis intervention strategies
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completed training program for Behavioral Health Technicians
  • Excellent observational and documentation skills
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Empathy and patience when working with individuals in distress
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Physical stamina to assist patients with mobility needs
